Duties Of The City Manager

The City Manager is responsible for appointing, directing, and supervising all administrative officers of the City, including:

  • Downtown Development Authority Director
  • Finance Director
  • Ionia Theatre Director
  • Parks and Recreation Director
  • Public Safety Director
  • Public Utilities Director
  • Public Works Director
  • Public Transportation Director

The City Manager is also responsible for:

  • Overseeing that all laws, provisions of the City Charter, and directives of the City Council are faithfully executed.
  • Preparation of the annual city budget and capital improvement program.
  • Preparing reports for the City Council on matters of the City.
  • Providing staff support to the City Council.
