Employment
When a personnel vacancy occurs, the appropriate supervisor and the city manager will conduct a joint review of the position. Each and every position that becomes available shall be reviewed to ensure that the guidelines, job description, and needs are present prior to filling such vacancy. The most suitable individual for the position shall then be carefully chosen, after considering those from within the City organization.

Job Postings
The Ionia City Clerk is recruiting citizens 18 years or older to serve as paid Election Workers for the August 4, 2026, and November 3, 2026, elections. Workers will be paid $16/hr. during elections. You are not required to live within the City of Ionia to be an Election Worker, but you must attend the City’s mandatory training.
Qualifications
- Available to work from 6:30 AM until approximately 10:00 PM on Election Day.
- Registered Michigan Voter.
- Capable of following instructions.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to be impartial during an election.
- Available to attend an in-person, unpaid 2-3 hour training session prior to the election.
Duties
- Assist Chairperson with polling place procedures.
- Assist voters in the voting process.
- Process absentee voter ballots.
- Other duties needed by the City Clerk or Ward Chairperson.

Ionia Dial-A-Ride – Public Transportation Dispatcher
The City of Ionia Dial-A-Ride is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Transportation Dispatcher. This position is part-time with the potential full-time in the future. Duties include answering phone calls, utilizing scheduling and dispatch software to book and assign trips, utilizing AVL software, customer service, sale of fare products, record keeping on a computer, two-way radio communication with drivers, and other duties as assigned.
Position reports to the Director of Transportation. Requires graduation from high school or an equivalent, computer proficiency, and completion of a pre-employment drug test. Minimum of one year of dispatch experience or similar preferred. Starting wage is $17.59/hour up to $20.31/hour depending on experience and qualifications. All compensation and fringe benefits in accordance with AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. In addition, appointment to this position on a permanent basis is contingent upon successful completion of the required probationary period. The City of Ionia is seeking qualified applicants for the part-time position of Theatre Shift Manager at the Ionia Theatre. Hours range from 10 to 30 per week, depending on Theatre schedule. Duties include opening and closing the Theatre for movies and events, overseeing concessions and ticketing, preparing projection rooms for movies, supervising staff and volunteers, and other duties as assigned. The Theatre Manager is an integral part of the team that enjoys a lively, fun and community-focused workplace.
Position reports to the DDA/Theatre Director. Requires graduation from high school or equivalent. Minimum experience of one year in a retail/office/customer service environment preferred. Proficiency with sales registers/computers and related equipment necessary. Current wage: $14 per hour to start. Appointment to this position is contingent upon successful completion of the required drug screen and training period.
